Experienced Hague Convention Lawyer
In 1980, countries from around the world signed an agreement protecting the rights of children who have been abducted and taken across international boundaries. Known as The Hague Convention, the agreement includes provisions that participating countries will work with the state department of the child’s country of residence to decide whether the local courts should handle the matter, or returned to the country of origin.
The Webb Family Law Firm, P.C., is led by attorney Brian L. Webb. Mr. Webb has been trained to work with the U.S. Department of State in matters related to the abduction and movement of children across international borders. He has spoken nationally on the subject and is a recognized leader in the area of international abduction law.
Generally, the U.S. Department of State acts as the central authority in cases involving abductions outside of the United States. In many cases, the department contacts Mr. Webb for assistance in Hague Convention matters; sorting out whether the child should be returned to the U.S. and what international forum the case should be heard in.
We Work To Ensure A Safe Return
Our firm does everything reasonable to work with the U.S. Department of State to locate the abducted child and return the child to the rightful custodial parent. Over the years, The Hague Convention has helped return countless children to their custodial parents in the United States, after kidnapping by their noncustodial parent.
If you know where the noncustodial parent is, we will act immediately to begin working with the state department and local authorities to negotiate or mediate conditions of safe return. Mr. Webb is highly trained in this very emotional area of the law and has been successful in affecting strategies to protect the child’s interests.
